As Bee City USA & Tree City USA community, the City of Santa Fe is committed to fostering citywide garden and landscape efforts that support pollinators, urban wildlife, and foster a healthy urban tree canopy while maximizing outdoor water efficiency. It’s important to plant native and/or drought tolerant trees, shrubs, and plants that are well-suited to Santa Fe’s arid high desert environment. Planting the right plants helps ensure that our “urban forest” is climate ready for the future.

Download the list of what’s growing in our Water Conservation Demonstration gardens. List includes common and botanical names. Our non-cactus garden was donated by the Santa Fe Master Gardeners which requires minimal irrigation especially now that the plants have become more established.

Take advantage of outdoor rebates when you purchase rain barrels, both small and large volume cisterns, as well as irrigation equipment including rain sensors, soil moisture sensors, and ET controllers.

We realize not everyone can afford to hire a professional landscaper to install a drip irrigation system. But the good news is, with a small budget and a little bit of effort, you can do it yourself!
